The Spit Suburb Profile
4217 QLD
The Spit Suburb Overview
The Southport Spit (officially known as The Spit) is a spit and neighbourhood within the northern end of Main Beach. It’s a permanent sand spit that separates the Southport Broadwater from the Pacific Ocean. The Spit stretches out into the seaway and is primarily made up of parkland, a favourite spot for fishing, boating, and simply unwinding. Two parks can be explored here: Doug Jennings Park on the end and Philip Park on the ocean side. Fishing enthusiasts often gather along the seaway at Doug Jennings Park, casting their lines from the rocks at its tip. Meanwhile, at the end, where the rock wall ends, a sandy shoreline awaits. Close to a cafe and convenience store, there's a pathway that leads down to the sand pumping jetty—a pier for fishing. Additionally, take a stroll along the rock wall at the tip. From there, enjoy ocean breezes while gazing back at Surfers Paradise and its beautiful beach.
