Varsity Lakes is a combination of the former suburbs of Stephens, Andrews, and a part of Robina. In 2002, these three suburbs were combined to create a new suburb called Varsity Lakes. The Pacific Motorway borders the suburb to the west, Reedy Creek Road to the south, and Mattocks Road and Bermuda Street to the east. The Gold Coast railway line enters the suburb from the north-west (Robina) and runs immediately parallel and east of the motorway, where the line terminates at Varsity Lakes railway station.

Kinetic Group manages bus services within the suburb, connecting Varsity Lakes to Robina, Broadbeach, and Tweed Heads. Queensland Rail operates a City Train line that runs from Central Railway Station in Brisbane to the Gold Coast, with the stop being Varsity Lakes Railway Station. Trains run every hour until late, seven days a week. Both Queensland Rail and Kinetic Group are contracted by Translink, which oversees a ticketing system across south-east Queensland. There is no bus route from Brisbane to Varsity Lakes. However, there are services that depart from Brisbane and arrive at Christine Ave. at Regensberg Close via Burleigh Heads. The journey typically takes around 2 hours and 2 minutes, including any transfers required. Alternatively, there is a train that departs from South Brisbane station (platform 1) and arrives at Varsity Lakes station (platform 2). Trains operate every day with a frequency of one departure every 30 minutes. The journey typically lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Education

Varsity College is a government primary and secondary (prep to 12) school for boys and girls. The primary school campus is at 1 Bridgewater Drive, and the secondary school campus is at 198 Varsity Parade. The suburb is also served by two other primary schools: Caningeraba State School in neighbouring Burleigh Waters to the east and Robina State School in neighbouring Robina to the north-west. It is also served by Miami State High School in neighbouring Miami to the north- east.
