Yatala Suburb Profile
4207 QLD
Yatala Suburb Overview
Yatala is a suburb in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Beenleigh, Windaroo, and Stapylton are all around it. Yatala and adjoining suburbs are located near the confluence of the Albert River, which is at the northern end of the suburb. The suburb takes its name from a property on the Albert River, which was named by a South Australian after Yatala Harbour near Port Augusta, South Australia. The word is presumed to be from the Kaurna Aboriginal word 'yertalla', meaning water running by the side of a river. As a place name, it specifically referred to the inundation of the usually dry plain on either side of Dry Creek in South Australia after heavy rain. Strategically situated in a location within one of Australia's developing regions, Yatala (on the western side of the M1 Pacific Motorway) and Stapylton (east) were once considered less attractive areas on the Gold Coast. However, in the 1970s, they gained recognition as a commercial, business, and industrial hub conveniently positioned between the Brisbane CBD and the Gold Coast. Today, these suburbs offer residents a lifestyle choice—the opportunity to reside in a setting while having easy access to businesses and employment opportunities nearby. The community is well planned and provides an eco-lifestyle within a lush semi-rural environment. There is an abundance of housing options available locally, ranging from apartments and affordable family homes designed like estates to waterfront properties with spacious acreages for those seeking a more leisurely lifestyle, grand mansions, nearby golf courses, and charming villas.
